More than 20% of Americans now suffer from some form of mental illness. A mental illness is defined as a mental condition that results in decreased functioning from society. These illnesses include depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, post traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety, and other illnesses.

While many disorders have been there for a number of years or even decades or even passing a century, there are many new disorders as labeled in the new DSIM V, which came out over the past few years. 13 new mental disorders meant more patients that were suffering from some kind of ailment that prevented them from functioning to their best potential.

Many people suffer from depression, as it afflicts hundreds of millions of people every year throughout the world and millions of people in the United States. It is an illness that psychologists say is categorized by feelings of tiredness, lack of motivation, lack of pleasure in activities that were pleasurable, overeating, and more.

People with depression sometimes harbor thoughts of harming themselves or even harming other people. Those in the industry call these things “suicidal ideations” and a desire to kill themselves or end their own lives. While it is a component of an illness, many times it is still looked at as the person’s choice or their decision.

People with serious degrees of depression, who have suicidal thoughts and possible desires compounded by a plan to end their lives, are often hospitalized in inpatient settings in mental hospitals. These mental hospitals are there for individuals who are struggling with illnesses which are completely debilitating or may result in harm to themselves or others.

There are many mental hospitals in the United States. The hospitals have their own style of treatment, with many placing those with mental conditions in one wing and those with addiction issues in another wing. Halls can be co-gender or just one gender. There are sometimes issues with relationships in these hospitals, given the circumstances.

Some mental hospitals may have different levels of appreciate for patients than others. Some may not provide many options for treatment, while others may treat patients with a little more respect than others. Some may feel like patients are just a number, while others feel that patients deserve different options for comfort.

One of the complications with mental illness is that it can be compounded or masked by another illness. For instance, depression can be caused by numerous factors, including environmental issues, brain chemistry issues, Alzheimer’s disease, a brain tumor, and Lyme disease.

A new kind of mental hospital is growing in the United States to treat illnesses that are considered compound illnesses, which is when mental illness is compounded by another illness. These are called neuropsychiatric hospitals. Neuropsychiatric hospitals look at different kinds of illnesses and how they interact with mental illnesses.

Many things may be featured in both a neuropsychitric hospital and a mental hospital. Mental hospitals may feature recreational therapy, psychiatric care, psychiatric doctors, a psychiatric acute treatment program, occupational therapy, reminiscence therapy, and more.

Neuropsychiatric hospital doctors may be skilled at treating more illnesses than just depression. Neuropsychiatric hospital doctors may be trained in neurology as well as psychiatry and able to tell the difference in symptoms or diagnose them correctly.

Neuropsychiatric hospital doctors may be able to handle a patient that is exhibiting multiple kinds of symptoms. Neuropsychiatric hospital doctors may be skilled at both diagnosis and treatment. It is possible a person may find help there where it has been missed in other treatment centers.

Mental illness is difficult to treat and manage, even when there is not a neurological disorder causing problems by interacting and compounding it. A neuropsychiatric hospital helps to reduce symptoms by treating neurological disorders on top of mental disorders. Treating them at the same time can reduce overall symptoms.

They are a new form of treatment that can help those suffering from conditions.
