Being able to sleep through the night is so incredibly important to our well being. If you’ve ever had insomnia due to pregnancy, newborn or a sleep disorder then you understand why a full night’s sleep should not be taken for granted. Sleep apnea is an example of a sleep disorder that is all to common and sometimes isn’t even properly treated by a lot of people. Between the home sleep tests and different kinds of sleep apnea machines that are available, there really is no reason for someone not to go through the steps of treatment so that they can sleep better. The whole process is very convenient and sleep apnea machine is surprisingly easy to get used to once you have the correctly fitted sleep apnea mask and CPAP supplies. If you think you might be suffering from sleep apnea or some other kind of sleep disorder, you need to get in and see your doctor so that you can resume a high quality of living. Even if that means sleeping with a sleep apnea machine, it’s a better alternative than never getting enough enough. Here are some things that can happen when we don’t get enough sleep.

  1. Loss of Concentration
Without sleeping properly it is very difficult to reign in your mind and keep focused. Especially if you have a job that requires you to pay attention to one thing for a long period of time without taking breaks. Your mind needs breaks just as much as anything else and being able to sleep through the night is like one long break. It needs this every day because it’s working through out the day non stop. Night time sleep is when it stops and replenishes and refreshes itself. Much like when you work out, you need a day off to let your muscles heal and recuperate. Without a good night’s sleep, our minds don’t recuperate and therefore never get a chance to be refreshed. The longer we go without good sleep, the less we are going to be able to focus.

  2. Loss of Brain Power
This goes even deeper than concentration. This includes memory and even ‘feeling smart.’ If you aren’t sleeping well then your brain will feel foggy and it will be difficult for you to pull facts from it like you used to be able to. You’ll get that feeling of knowing something, or it being on the tip of your tongue but you just can’t seem to get it to the forefront of your brain. It will quickly because frustrating.

  3. Loss of Reaction Time
There are rules against drinking and driving but there really should also be something prohibiting you from driving if you haven’t slept. Not sleeping can actually slow down our reaction time just like being under the influence can. You’ll see what is happening but be unable to do anything about it, often until it is to late.

  4. Loss of Quality of Life
Besides the three losses mentioned above, your general quality of life will be lowered. Without sleep you’ll feel irritable, grouchy and mean. You’ll probably suffer from sleep deprivation headache, aches and pains and restless leg syndrome. You will end up finding yourself falling asleep while trying to do normal daily tasks like drive or work or even eat.

If the only thing not allowing you to get a good night’s sleep is the fact that you don’t want to sleep with a sleep apnea machine, then this is not a good enough reason. Take another look at the losses above. If these things are happening to you, your life is fading away before your very eyes and because you do not like the idea of needing assistance while you sleep, you’re going to allow it to happen? You need to take control of your life and see a doctor about your disorder. You will be amazed at the results you’ll begin to feel almost immediately after you start getting deep enough sleep and sleeping all night long. There are enough things in this world that can bring life down, don’t let something like this, something that you have the ability to change and be in charge of, be what is ruining your quality of living.
